Learn to Scan QR Codes with Your Smartphones


This article will show you how to scan a barcode, also known as QR codes, with your smartphone.

So, you want to learn to how to scan qr codes.  There are many free bar code readers available for you to download.  Researching this topic on your own can be very overwhelming so we have done a lot of research on the available mobile bar code readers and smartphones to make it easier for you to get started.  There are many different brands of smart phones so instead of listing each of them, we used the major brands including Android and iPhones.  If you do not have an Android or iPhone, we also list resources for Nokia, Blackberry, HTC, Samsung, LG, Siemens, and Motorola... to name a few!


To scan QR codes, you must have a bar code reader

If you have an Android phone, you can get a barcode reader from Google Play.  Here are a few free ones to get you started:

iPhone users can get QR code Readers from the iTunes.  There are both free and applications that cost.  Below is a list of each.

Now that you have your QR Code Reader Installed, Follow These Simple Steps



  1. Click on the icon to open the application on your smartphone (iPhone, Android, Blackberry, Windows Mobile etc.).  For example, if you installed NeoReader, click on the NeoReader icon.

  2. Place your phone's camera over the QR code (2d barcode) so it fits on your screen

  3. Your smartphone will 'decode' the barcode and the content will be displayed on the screen
